Houbara

Houbara

2018-2019

Houbara is a project that focuses on the weaknesses and high margin for error in the relationship we build with animals from an anthropocentric perspective. This perspective, which regards animals as mechanisms that respond to stimuli or enslaved instruments for the benefit of humanity, attempts to influence the future existence of other species through cloning, resurrection and robot animals.

İn this project, I attempted to create new forms of life by dissecting the anatomy of endangered species as physical forms. I've worked on the sculptures of animals that haven't been born yet. Then I took these new creatures (my sculptures) into nature and took fictional photographs in a dystopian story. I try to made a parody of what we can use to substitute extinct species through different forms of life concocted out of plastic deconstruction.

Humans have understood the mysteries of the world and and their place in it by observing animals. Placing humans and animals onto the same imaginary plane reminds us that we are a whole. With Houbara, I want to evoke this powerful memory.

Houbara (Chlomdotis undulata) is amember of avian Otidae family. İt is an endangered animal due to excessive hunting. İt has gone extinct in Turkey.
